Niko Franghias
Filmmaker (director-writer)
Born in Athens Greece. Living in England in the ‘80s, he attended the film making classes of Central Academy of Film Art and Drama, and graduated from the Film Production InterMedia Postgraduate course of the Art & Design Faculty of Croydon College. He collaborated with the Greek Section of the BBC World Service as a program assistant for 6 months, before returning to Greece for his national military service.
From 1989 till 1994, he worked in advertising as a TV Copywriter, filmmaker and agency producer responsible for the audiovisual projects of the major Greek advertising agency JNL, and then as a freelancer until 2000. He has fostered quality projects of multinational accounts from initial briefing to final product delivery. A number of his collaborations are winners of the annual Greek Advertising Creativity Festivals.
In film, he debuted as a director in 1990 with the 30 min short 639+1 NIGHTS co-produced by the Greek Film Center. Since then he has participated in the dramaturgy workshops of Jan Fleischer (Head of Screenwriting Department, National Film and Television School, UK), the Mediterranean Film Institute with guest lecturers Lewis Cole and Nicholas Proferes (Professors, Film Division, Columbia University, New York, USA), and at the London based Arista Story Development Workshop.
In 1996, Niko wrote, designed and directed the acclaimed 60 min creative historical documentary LYSIPPOS CREATED, based on the story and the art of Alexander the Great's exclusive portraitist, Lysippos. Awards: Best Screenplay in the 1st International Agon Festival of Archaeological Films of Athens, and Audience Award in the 6th ArcheoFilmFest, Rassegna Internazionale del Film Archeologico in Italy.
